LET’S TALK DESIGN

What exactly is a brand? Hint: It’s not a company’s logo or advertising. Those things are controlled by the company. Instead, a brand is a customer’s gut feeling about a product, service or company. People create brands to bring order out of clutter. If the word brand didn’t exist, we’d have to invent a new one, because no other word captures the complexity and richness of this concept. The only word that comes close is “reputation.” Your personal reputation, like a company’s brand, lies outside of your control. It’s not what you say it is—it’s what they say it is. As we all try to reduce our use of single-use plastics, for some, giving up Zip-Lock bags can be tough. FOR YOUR HEALTH

The COVID-19 pandemic is causing fear and anxiety as most of us are still in quarantine and unaware of its end. But there’s a piece of advice that has helped me, and it comes from a well-known book called Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe: “DON’T PANIC!” I know this idea might seem late in the game at this point—being that all the hand sanitizer and toilet paper are gone—but try to remind yourself daily not to panic. Try not to dwell on the negative what ifs. Instead, spend time connecting with the positive things this situation is offering; not only to you but the world.
